Archbishop Celia
Ordained to the priesthood in 2004 and consecrated in 2017, Abp. Celia was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. In 1995 she moved to Casa Grande, Arizona with her husband Michael. Abp. Celia’s ministry began in Casa Grande, however she also serves the Phoenix and Tucson areas as well, participates in outreach to diverse groups including Native American, Mexican-American, displaced Roman Catholics, believers, non-believers and all those who have experienced spiritual abuse of any kind.
Abp. Celia is a human rights activist who is dedicated to being a positive influence on issues impacting women, immigrants and the two-spirited community. She is committed to promoting equality and in 2010, was awarded the Southern Arizona Human Rights Activist of the Year for her work in the LBGTQ Community.
Abp. Celia has worked in a variety of fields including as an investigator in banking, surgical assistant for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and, she recently retired from her work in the behavioral health field specializing in treatment and education of those with a history of drug and alcohol addiction. In addition to her volunteer work in the LCCI, Abp. Celia currently volunteers at Seeds of Hope, a non-profit charity that promotes opportunities to improve lives through relationships and community development. In 2018, Abp. Celia started a local program to assist people experiencing homelessness. That Program is now known as Matthew 25:34 and has officially expanded to the Tucson area.
Abp. Celia enjoys swimming, cycling, time at the driving range, meditation, and playing the Native American style flute. She has performed at The Paramount Theater and Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, the Boyce-Thompson Arboretum in Superior, AZ., the Pueblo Grande Museum in Phoenix, AZ, at the Phoenix Zoo and, at Tohono Chul Park in Tucson. Abp. Celia especially enjoys spending quiet time with her husband, Michael, who is a Deacon in the LCCI, and with their three rescue dogs at their home.
