A Message from Presiding Bishop Celia Jose
Across the nation, small churches are closing. The U.S. population is becoming increasingly uninterested in congregational worship, especially younger Americans, a trend was accelerated by COVID. But human need for compassionate outreach is increasing.
Accordingly, after 27 years celebrating Mass in Casa Grande, St. Michael and All Angels Liberal Catholic Church will hold its last regularly-scheduled public worship service on Easter Sunday, March 31st, 2024. Our clergy, members, and volunteers will now focus our energy on providing direct services to the “least” of His children, according to His counsel in Matthew 25:34.
That means we’ll concentrate now on feeding the hungry and helping the unhoused, as well as continuing our decades-long advocacy for the rights of LGBTQIA+ people and other vulnerable and marginalized individuals and communities across the state. And anyone can help, regardless of your particular faith practice, or lack thereof. All it takes to join us is an interest in helping us with our service and advocacy efforts. If you’d like to add your heart and head and hands to this important work, please email me at [email protected]. And if you’d like to attend a Liberal Catholic Mass, we’re still celebrating it once a month live in Tucson and most Sundays via Zoom.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED
What is the LCCI?We draw our central inspiration from faith in an eternal Christ, who lives now and forever as a mighty spiritual Presence in the world, guiding and sustaining all His children, without barriers based on race, color, national origin, ancestry, gender or gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, economic status, age, disability, theological viewpoint, familial status, or issues of individual conscience.

Who are our clergy?
Our clergy come from all walks of life. They are not paid, but have secular jobs and provide their gifts to the church as part of their personal calling to faith. We ordain women and welcome LGBTQ+ people for a full life in the church, including ordination.
