“Matthew 25:34 – A Community of Compassionate Care”
We’re no longer offering public worship services in Casa Grande. Instead, we’re focusing on outreach to and direct services for the “least” of His children. Who are the people to whom Jesus refers? Here’s how He describes them, and how he asks us to love and care for them, beginning at Matthew 25:34…
“Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world, for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did it to me.’”
In our present time, we don’t call these people and communities “the least.” Instead, we call them “marginalized”, which means people or groups who are treated as less important than the rest, pushed to the margins of society, and rendered powerless. In addition to those specifically named by Jesus, our modern-day marginalized individuals and communities most certainly include the unhoused, LGBTQIA+ people, BIPOC people (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), the elderly, differently-abled people, the mentally ill and cognitively impaired, substance abusers, people living in poverty, and others.
If you’d like to help us reach out to those in need, we invite you to join us. While we as Liberal Catholics are motivated to help for many reasons, including our desire to live as best we can according to the teachings of Christ, we invite people of any faith – or no faith at all – to add your heart and heads and hands to our efforts. All we ask is a sincere desire to help provide compassionate care to those who need it the most.
